Stenson To Stop Spieth's Claim For Number One Spot?

Hi,

Can Spieth Claim The World Number One Spot?

The simple answer is YES!

However there are 76 reasons why he may not.

A field of 77 players take to the first tee later tomorrow in the prestigious WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.

Justin Spieth is the overwhelming favourite to come out on top late Sunday evening. Current best price is a low 6/1 which given the quality of the field he faces over the weekend is poor value.

Spieth has a great all round game. Accuracy off the tee needs to be worked on, however fairway to green and putting is of high quality. Indeed Spieth is currently ranked number one for putting.

So, who are Spieth's main challengers this weekend?

The Firestone course is long, so a powerful hitter is likely to go well. However it's no good having the power if your not accurate off the tee. So let's look at a few players who have power and the accuracy to feature.

Henrik Stenson can hit a ball and is ranked 56th for length. Driving accuracy is one of the best in the game and is currently ranked 4th.

Keegan Bradley is ranked 13th for driving distance, with driving accuracy being ranked at 54th.

There are plenty of other stand out performers who have great driving distance, but do not have the accuracy, and visa versa.

Putting wise Spieth (1st), Day (2nd) and Johnson (4th) are all red hot with their putters. However Day's driving accuracy is pretty awful as is Johnson's.

Henrik Stenson value To Win At Firestone?
To be honest, if Spieth is on his game he will be mightily difficult to beat, but at best price of 6/1 there is no value.

For me I am happy to look towards Henrik Stenson.

As mentioned he can drive the ball a long way, but more importantly the accuracy is very good. Stenson has finished 2nd & 19th in his past two visits to 'Firestone'.

Stenson has been off form for the early part of the season having suffered a prolonged illness. But the signs are that he is getting back to form. If he can get is putter working he must surely have a chance at decent odds of 25/1.

Have a great day.
