Premier League Weekend Match Reviews

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCH PREVIEWS SATURDAY
SEPTEMBER 26 – MONDAY SEPTEMBER 28

Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City – Saturday 1245

Positions: Tottenham 9th, Man City 1st

Form:

Tottenham
(last six League matches – earliest first): LDDDWW (9pts)

Man City
WWWWWL (15pts)

·         Tottenham have won the last two, but face a stiff test here. It would be a good time for Harry Kane to open his account.

·         City stand top of the table, but need to bounce back after two defeats, including that to Juventus in Europe. Their defeat to West Ham saw them concede for the first time this season, but Vincent Kompany could return from injury, as could David Silva.

Leicester City v Arsenal – Saturday 1500

Positions: Leicester 4th, Arsenal 5th

Form:

Leicester
WWDDWD (12pts)

Arsenal
LWDWWL (10pts)

·         To be unbeaten and to be the joint highest scorers represents a truly superb start for Leicester. But a closer examination of their matches shows they have had to come from behind a number of times. Arsenal may not be so accommodating if they get their noses in front.

·         Arsenal have however struggled for goals so far. Gabriel’s red card from the Chelsea match has been rescinded, and he will not serve a suspension.

Liverpool v Aston Villa – Saturday 1500

Positions: Liverpool 13th, Aston Villa 17th

Form:

Liverpool
WWDLLD (8pts)

Aston Villa
WLLDLL (4pts)

·         These two teams have scored only 10 goals between them so far, and Liverpool are four without a win and Villa five without a win.

Manchester United v Sunderland – Saturday 1500

Positions: Man Utd 2nd, Sunderland 20th

Form:

Man Utd
WWDLWW (13pts)

Sunderland
LLDDLL (2pts)

·         For all their concerns about their lack of depth upfront, United stand second in the table. Will Anthony Martial continue his scoring run? He many fancy his chances, given Sunderland are without a win and have the League’s worst defensive record.

Southampton v Swansea City – Saturday 1500

Positions: Southampton 16th, Swansea 7th

Form:

Southampton
DLDWDL (6pts)

Swansea
DWDWLD (9pts)

·         Both sides have been short of goals. Swansea remain heavily reliant on Bafetimbi Gomis upfront, but have lost only once so far.

Stoke City v Bournemouth – Saturday 1500

Positions: Stoke 18th, Bournemouth 14th

Form:

Stoke
LDDLLD (3pts)

Bournemouth
LLWDLW (7pts)

·         Bournemouth seem to be finding their feet in the Premier League, with Callum Wilson still the top English goalscorer in the division. They may fancy their chances away to a winless Stoke side.

West Ham United v Norwich City – Saturday 1500

Positions: West Ham 3rd, Norwich 11th

Form:

West Ham
WLLWWW (12pts)

Norwich
LWDLWD (8pts)

·         West Ham are in superb form, with Dimitri Payet suggesting he may be every bit as good a signing as Diafra Sakho was last year. They will back themselves to continue their winning run against inconsistent Norwich.

Newcastle United v Chelsea – Saturday 1730

Positions: Newcastle 19th, Chelsea 15th

Form:

Newcastle
DLDLLL (2pts)

Chelsea
DLWLLW (7pts)

·         Another turbulent week at Chelsea has seen Diego Costa banned for this match (and the next two). Despite the loss of their star forward, and their own stuttering start, Chelsea have a great chance to climb the table at Newcastle.

·         Newcastle are yet to win, and their big money signings are yet to fire.

Watford v Crystal Palace – Sunday 1600

Positions: Watford 10th, Crystal Palace 8th

Form:

Watford
DDDLWW (9pts)

Crystal Palace
WLWWDD (9pts)

·      Will Watford’s better recent form in the last two matches see them to a home win?

West Bromwich Albion v Everton – Monday 2000

Positions: West Brom 12th, Everton 6th

Form:

West Brom
LDLWDW (8pts)

Everton
DWLDWD (9pts)

·         West Brom are amongst the lowest scorers, and will hope Saido Berahino has re-discovered his motivation to play for them, or that Salomon Rondon can justify his £13 million fee. Everton will hope for another free scoring win after three goals against both Southampton and Chelsea.
