The Open Championship

This weekend we see the start of The Open at St.Andrews.

All eyes will be on this beautiful part of the world as this university town will host one of the biggest golf tournaments of the year.

If you have never been to St.Andrews I thoroughly suggest you do.

The last time I visited was last March when me and the family were based in Llinlithgow for a weeks holiday. Llinlithgow is based between Glasgow and Edinburgh and an ideal place to stay if travelling around sightseeing.

We travelled to St.Andrews around tea time one day after a tour of Perth and Dundee. Being March it was a bit chilly any way, but even I was not considering being in a sudden snow storm whilst on the beach with the dog!

After getting our feet wet in freezing water due the tide rolling in, we made our way to the first tee at St.Andrews after scrambling up the side of the nearest car park to dry off! 

Looking out to the expanse of the St.Andrews course takes your breath away. In March there was hardly a sole around, it will be much different this weekend with thousands of golfing fans travelling from all around the world to watch the events unfold.

So, whose your money on?

Plenty have chances of course with a very strong field lining up.

Ideally your looking for a player who enjoys links golf, also someone who can play in changeable weather.

You would think this rules out the majority of the American players, but there are a few that could go well. Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler have 'been there, seen it and done it' before! However value lacks with both players.

On the 'home' front I'm personally struggling to see anyone go well with value. So we look abroad and two players that catch the eye.

The second player is German Martin Kaymer who is slowly getting his act together after a mediocre couple of years. Once again loves links courses and has had many positive finishes. Kaymer has been looking forward to The Open at St.Andrews for a number of years. Most importantly he looks value and is currently available around the 40/1 mark.

Wimbledon Men's Final Stats

Today sees the Men's Wimbledon Final take place.

So, whose your money on?

All signs point to a close match in today's Wimbledon Final

If you are anything like me you love stats, and I have taken a key eye on this match.

However that's where it all ends, as there is simply nothing to separate these players!

Let's look at the data.

In total these two players have played each other on 39 occasions with Federer winning 20 matches to Djokovic's 19.

Since January 2014 they have played each other on 9 occasions with Djokovic coming out just on top with 5 wins to Federer's 4!

So how about 'grass stats'?

Incredibly they have only met twice on grass, and you guessed it they have both won one match each!

In 2012 Federer beat Djokovic in four sets in the Wimbledon Semi-Final. And more recently in 2014 Djokovic beat Federer in five sets in the Final.

So, nothing splits these two players! The current Wimbledon seeding's see Djokovic ranked 1, and Federer ranked 2!


It's one to watch with no investment involved for me. But may be the value is in the match going all the way, with a five set match currently priced up at 5/2 with Hills.

It's the first day of the Newmarket July meeting and there is a number of high quality races for our interest.

Our friends at NWRacing have kindly forwarded their findings for Day One.

2.10 Newmarket -

This all seems to be about MR SINGH!

MR SINGH comes out top of both our R1 & R2 ratings and is significantly clear of the second rated Future Empire.

MR SINGH also comes out well on our OF Strategy and is top ranked on our speed ratings. There is also strong trends for this horse.

2.40 Newmarket -

A fairly open race with a number of horses showing up well on different parts of our statistical data.

ELRONAQ is top of our R1 rating, and SIXTH SENSE is top of our R2 rating. Overall it's ELRONAQ who is top rated.

AREEN comes out best on our OF Strategy, and is also top ranked on our speed ratings. There are no strong trends in this race.

3.15 Newmarket -

A tight race with a few runners who stand out amongst the others.

GOSPEL CHOIR is top on our R1 rating, and is joint top on our R2 rating alongside HILLSTAR. Overall GOSPEL CHOIR is top rated.

HILLSTAR comes out top on our OF Strategy as well as top ranked on our speed figures. Trends wise GOSPEL CHOIR once again comes out well.

A difficult race with many having serious chances.

4.20 Newmarket -

One horse stands out on our statistics in this race, and that is the likely fav' GREENFYRE.

Kauto Star Remembered

Hi,

Since our last blog we have unfortunately lost a much loved horse, and 'King Of Cheltenham' Kauto Star.

Kauto Star Will Be Sadly Missed

'Kauto' fell at home in what seems a freak accident and unfortunately had to be put down. There have been many lovely pieces written about this fantastic horse who I had the pleasure of seeing run on numerous occasions.

One of the  best write up's I came across was from the Racing Post and it can be viewed HERE.

'Kauto Star' will be missed by many.
