What Are You Bringing To The Table?

There are many of punters who struggle to make money following tipsters.
Is it because the tipsters they are following are bad or disreputable?
Possibly, but with the number of individual reviews and reviews from sites like Winners Odds available, it is fairly easy to tell who’s the real deal and what services are dodgy.
So if the tipsters people are following are generally profitable, why are some punters still not making any money?

The main culprit is people quitting services without giving them a chance, and then moving on to some new service before giving up on that too.
The main reason behind people intentions to quit a service is unreasonable expectations of the results of tipsters.
A tipster is not a miracle maker!
Following a tipster won’t make you an instant fortune!
And not every bet a tipster advises is going to win!
I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but some people actually believe those things.
So if the tipsters doing their job and making a long term profit. (eg. being in profit over a period of 3 months)
then the problem must be with the struggling punter.
A tipster is just one part of the equation. You have to bring a solid foundation of betting knowledge to the table to get the best results.
This is why I’m always banging on about bankroll management, staking plans and the like.
A solid foundation of knowledge, an analytical mindset and a little bit of patience will go a long way in helping you become a successful bettor.
I can’t help you with the later two, there up to you, but if you read a number of article here at Winners Odds, you will gain a good foundation of betting knowledge.
If you’re looking for some tipsters to pair your betting knowledge with, here are the ones I recommend:

Gambler Or Investor… Which Are You?

Are you a gambler or are you an investor?
A gambler is someone who risks their money in the hopes of achieving a desired result, whereas, an investor does their research and invests their money into things they believe are likely to return a positive outcome.
When it comes to betting, you can take a gamblers approach or you can take an investors approach.
Whichever approach you choose to take will greatly effect the results you will achieve (or fail to achieve) from your betting.
Here’s a few questions you can answer to see which type of bettor you are.
  • Do you follow a staking plan?
  • Do you have a bankroll put aside, separate from your main money, that you use solely for betting?
  • Do you track all of your bets and results?
  • Do you know what the strike rate, ROI and average odds was for all your bets within the last month?
  • Do you stick with a strategy, system or tipster for picking your selections as a pose to hopping from one system to the next, month after month?
If you answered yes to all of the above questions. Great!
You’re taking a very systematic approach to your betting that will allow you to make some good profits if you keep at it.
But if you found your self answering no to one or more of the above questions, you’re probably taking more a gamblers approach to your betting.
If you continue to bet like this you might hit a big winner and make a profit in the short term if you’re lucky.
But you will almost certainly make a loss on your betting in the long haul unless you make some changes.

Profit Through Specialization

I was speaking to an acquaintance recently, and naturally, the talk turned to betting.
Now this guy wasn’t much of a bettor himself but he was telling me about his 18 year old son who had made a couple of grand of the last few months by betting on under 20’s ice hockey.
And the reason his son had managed to do this was because, he himself was an ice hockey player and he knew the sport and the teams at this level of the sport very well.
So well in fact, that his level of knowledge surpassed the level of knowledge of the odds compilers at the bookies allowing him to spot value bets where the bookies had priced certain teams to high and take advantage of this.
This 18 year old kid wasn’t a betting genius or anything of the sort. He simply had a specialized knowledge of a sport the bookies don’t know a whole lot about.
The lesson I took away from this story was that anyone can learn how to spot value bets and beat the bookies in the long run and the trick to doing so is to specialize.
It must be a nightmare being a bookie and having to price up odds on a wide variety of sports.
The bookies odds compilers are usually pretty good at pricing up the odds on popular sports like football and tennis, but when it comes to more obscure sports they often won’t have a specialist to price the odds for them meaning the odds they price up will just be “good enough” for them to make a profit from most punters betting on it.
But if you have an interest in a slightly obscure sports and follow that sport enough to develop a specialized knowledge then there is some easy money to made in taking advantage of this weakness in the bookies odds.
The bookies have to take bets on almost every event going.
But you don’t.
So specialize your betting down and tear the bookies apart.

Dont 'Faff Around' Be Professional...

After today there is no horse racing until Boxing Day as the sport takes a break.

Although it's a busy time of year for most, you know the things...

Family functions, Christmas shopping, nights out with friends etc.

I would urge you to consider to make an important choice for 2016.

That is to be professional in your sports betting. Don't do it when you feel like it, don't follow a service but not stick to the advised stakes, don't miss days betting when it only takes a few minutes to open an email and place your bets.

Be professional.

There is good money to be made following profitable & professional tipsters, and here at Tipster Street we have some of the best, furthermore they are great value.

I decided a few months back to follow two tipsters for an example of how to make money from sports betting.

I decided to set up another account with Betfair and use a percentage of my bank which would grow in the long term. I started with £200 and using £2 stakes per point.

The two tipsters I follow for this example are Racing Gold & All Weather Profits.

I started on the 7th October, below are the P/L figures to date.

7th October - 7th November £0.35
8th November - 7th December £269.14
8th December - 21st December -£89.00

Over all Profit of £180.49

This is starting from just a bank of £200. Current bank £380.49 after 5% Betfair commission. I will also say that this is after the two tipsters I have been following have made a loss over all in December to date! This example shows that using a betting bank can be profitable in the long term if you are following two tipsters that make profits in the long term.

I shall continue this example running in the back ground during 2016, and will let you know how we are getting on during the year.

Why don't you follow one or two of our services during the year? Start with just a small bank and watch it grow throughout the year. You could even deduct your subscription fees from our bank!

SPORTING ROUND UP

Story of the Week

One of the most famous pair of running shoes were sold at auction last week for £220,000, that’s approx $300,000.  Were they Usain Bolt’s? Did they belong to Carl Lewis, Sally Gunnell,  Michael Johnson, Paul Radcliffe maybe or Mary Peters perhaps?

Well they actually belonged to Sir Roger Banister, the first ever athlete to run one mile in under 4 minutes. The date was 6th May 1954 and he was 25. The stop watch that recorded this amazing event sold for £20,000. Sir Roger was knighted in 1975.  He said, “They served me great purpose, I am grateful to them, but, I think it’s the right time to part with them.

I wonder what Usain Bolts running shoes will bring in 61 years time?
Anyone care to guess?

Hot Spots

Davis Cup Tennis: for the first time in 37 years Great Britain is through to the finals of the Davis Cup.  We will watch avidly in November when they face Belgium who have waited 111 years to get their final. (Well that’s what it says on the BBC Sports web page)  Well done Andy, what price a pair of your sneakers?

Rugby World Cup: Japan beat The Springbok - enough said. I am Welsh so the red dragon had better beat Uruguay later today. (Sunday)

Wheelchair Rugby: Great Britain v Sweden was a golden c for the British team at the European Championships. Final score, 49-48. Just as nail biting for their fans as those watching the Rugby World Cup. Up the Brits.

Rowing: Britain’s rowing 8 took the gold medal at the World Rowing Championships. Row row row your boat, not so gently down the stream,
all the way to Rio boys.

World Superbike Championships: Jonathan Rea is the 5th British rider to be crowned World Superbike Champion. I had a bike once. Suzuki 125or thereabouts. I think the speeds Johnathan races at would literally scare the pants off me.

Snooker: Judd Trump will play Kyren Wilson today in the Shanghai Masters final.

The Count Down : The Rio Olympics

The needed progress on the buildings and infrastructure for this great event are being made. “Concerns” are being voiced however by the media about whether or not Rio will be complete, the finances going over budget,  and the conditions that will greet the athletes when they arrive. No surprises there then, media business as usual.

If you want to see the actual progress for yourself it can be seen here http://goo.gl/DZx2Iw

Web site of the Week.

As your interest in the Olympics starts to go up then this is the web site to visit: http://goo.gl/fyVQ81  On the home page look to the right and click on the blue tab for sports. Proceed and click on the sport of your choice.  You will be taken to the well laid out, easy to understand pages where the rules and regs of the chosen sport are all laid out.  From Greco-Roman wrestling to volley ball, from boxing to synchronised swimming, from athletics to Rowing and so on are all there. I have read and understood two; beach volley ball and weight lifting. That’s two down, only 40 to go!

More updates on who won what on all these sports next week
