Horse Racing -Ladies First
Well done to Hayley Turner who gave everyone a thrilling end
to the races at the International Jockeys Challenge in South Africa. Riding Dream Galaxy she got his nose in front
of Gerg Cheyne in the eighth race and believe it or not I can’t find out any
more data than that. Not the track, not the time, not the type of race or if it
was the last one in the series. Extensive search on the internet drew a blank. I
found her own ‘blog’ on BETDAQ but it’s not up to date. Hopefully next week I
can give all the details if web sites have been updated. What a great finally
for this tremendous jockey.
Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal opened the new
stand at Cheltenham on Friday last week and what a fabulous venue Cheltenham
now is. The new paddock and winners layout says it all. The crowds get to see
the winners from high up and Horses can be presented to the crowds and paraded
along the walk round the winning enclosure.
Horse Racing - Gentlemen
Having opened the stand the three day Open Event at
Cheltenham got underway and we saw some great racing.
Sprinter Sacre did a brilliant job in the race and the new
winners enclosure did a fabulous job for him. His stable lad was able to parade
him round and show him off in front of the waiting crowds and the real hero got
the validation he deserved rather than just being walked off to the stables.
Well done to all concerned though for such a wonderful show.
We have this week however to reflect and applaud one of our
best jockeys, Pat Eddery OBE. Applauded and rightly so for his contribution to
racing by the TV, newspapers and internet media I would like to honour him with

Sports Personality of the Year
Contenders are currently being worked out. Lewis
Hamilton, Mr. Mo Farah, world rowing champ Helen Glover, Scott Brash -
equestrian extraordinaire, Jessica Ennis-Hill, World and Olympic Champion. And
we cannot forget A. P. McCoy. There are lots to choose from although
nominations ended awhile ago. There is still time to bet though.
Snooker: The Champion of Champions final is on Sunday
evening. It should be a very good match. I would like to see some flare in snooker
fashions though. I looked up the dress codes for players and they have to comply
with match specific regulations each time. Black, and black and grey or white
won’t bring in the youngsters. Some bright bow ties, bright shirts or bright
waistcoats might. Our youngsters are very fashion conscious.
